Case Study

Project: Secure Installer Builder & Intel Flex Reseller
Client: Intel Corporation

While working for Intel, managing vendors such as Google and Symantec, it became necessary to find a method for securing our 3rd-party software distribution. The goal was to allow our bundled software to install only when used with our Intel Desktop Motherboard hardware. As project manager for this particular issue I was responsible for architecting a solution, then seeing it through to end-user distribution.

I began by consulting with several hardware and software engineers within Intel to determine possible hardware detection routes. After gathering these technical recommendations, I drafted a statement of work (SOW) that outlined the core functionality of the needed software, applying a chosen detection method. With that statement of work, I sourced a vendor for the software development, secured NDA agreements and negotiated the budget down over $10 from original estimates.

For the Intel Flex Reseller program, I worked again with Symantec, this time on a vendor-specific solution for tracking program success rate (using installations as a metric). I was able to architect a technical solution for installation tracking, folowing a similar development course. Using the same software development vendor, I was able to negotiate costs down from an original estimate of $20k-$100k to a final cost of under $12k.
